Capital City Public Charter School is looking for two dedicated & talented Spanish teachers, one for our Lower School campus (working with grades 1-8) and the other for our Upper School campus (grades 6-10).

Capital City serves a diverse population and seeks a teaching staff reflective of our student body. African American and Latino candidates are strongly encouraged to apply. The Spanish Teacher is responsible for further developing and defining the Spanish curriculum, teaching Spanish classes for the grades listed above, and involving students in cultural experiences. The position also includes serving as a liaison with our Spanish speaking families and involving them in our program. The Spanish Teacher works closely with classroom teachers to plan developmentally appropriate activities and support learning expeditions and the individual needs of students. The current Lower School, founded in 2000, serves students in grades PK-8 and is recognized as a national model for school reform. In 2008 Capital City had the highest reading and math scores among District charter elementary schools. The Capital City Upper School campus opened in fall 2008 with grades 6-9 and will extend to 12th grade by 2011. Capital City implements the Expeditionary Learning model in tandem with the common principles of the Coalition of Essential Schools (CES).

Candidates must be fully bilingual and have 2+ years of full-time teaching experience. Degree in Education and/or Spanish is preferred. Additionally candidates should have: a commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse population, experience working in urban environments, strong knowledge of pedagogy and experience teaching in a constructivist way, proven ability to work as a member of a team, strong leadership capabilities, and a commitment to their own learning.
