Chemical Process Development Commercialization (CPDC) has a wide range of activities in the development of new chemical processes to support Mercks product line. At the forefront of the department focus is to develop safe productive environmentally-benign capital-sparing chemical processes; to ensure timely supply of active pharmaceutical ingredient to support clinical safety assessment formulation development and launch; and to develop technologies for our laboratories pilot plants and manufacturing facilities that secure a competitive advantage for Merck. The work covers a range of unit operations from laboratory to pilot plant scale. In addition specialty laboratories for Reaction Engineering Crystallization and Unit Operations/ Milling support the various products through process development.

Duties to include: Working in teams to bring research discoveries to full production scale by applying engineering chemistry and pharmaceutics skills to bench-scale processes. Conceive develop and implement new processing and manufacturing technologies. Work with human and animal health groups to develop processes for new products using chemically- or biologically- derived product. Support process development and product development with pilot plant scale up drug supply preparation and technology transfer to operations groups. Mercks Rahway site is in a prime location approximately 25 miles west of New York City. The site is easily accessible via car or public transportation. Housing and transportation are not provided. This position will begin in September 2009 and end in December 2009.

Candidates must be currently enrolled in a program pursuing a minimum of a BS in Chemical Engineering or a related discipline. Minimum GPA of 3.0 is required. Must be available from September to December 2009.
