Distance, pressure, altitude, underwater depth-they're all measured by precision instruments. It's up to the Army precision instruments maintenance team to make sure that all the required instruments are kept in top condition. The Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Specialist is an essential member of the Army precision instruments maintenance team and is primarily responsible for calibrating and repairing test, measurement and diagnostic equipment.
Some of your duties as a Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Specialist may include:
Calibrating weather instruments, such as barometers and thermometers
Repairing gyrocompasses
Adjusting and repairing
weapon-aiming devices, such as range finders, telescopes, and ballistic computers
Calibrating engineering instruments, such as transits, levels, telemeters and stereoscopes
Calibrating and repairing instruments used in aircraft
Repairing watches, clocks and timers
Calibrating electrical test instruments

Responsibilities
Advanced level Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Specialists supervise and train other Soldiers. As an advanced level Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Specialist, you may be involved in:
Operating calibration and minor repair of equipment
Performing calibration and repair of Radiation Detecting, Indicating and Computing equipment
Civilian Related
The skills you learn as a Test Measurement and Diagnostic Equipment Support Specialist will prepare you for a future career working for civilian firms that manufacture or use precision instruments. You'll be able to pursue a career as an instrument mechanic or a calibration specialist at civilian companies such as manufacturing firms, airlines, machinery repair shops or maintenance shops.
Through your extensive Army training and experience and some additional study, you may be able to qualify for Electronics Technician Association (ETA) certification.
