Click Here to Apply Online The McGraw-Hill Companies is one of the world's leading providers of information services and publishers of educational, business and professional information Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Strategy & Planning, this position is responsible for increasing awareness of digital needs and evaluating corporate digital priorities, assessing competitive intensity and the nature of competition our business units face, and supporting senior business leaders in developing new growth opportunities to help close the gap and/or better position our offerings going forward. Primary responsibilities include supporting development of the Corporate Strategic Plan, providing timely strategic intelligence and recommendations to senior management while supporting the development of a broad network of information sources. Additional responsibilities include championing digital strategy and business intelligence efforts within the organization. Supporting development of the Corporate Strategic Plan Support SVP in developing corporate strategy related to digital/online markets Key areas of focus: Non-traditional competitors competing in or near the fringes of our core markets Global priorities and emerging markets Organic growth opportunities Performance metrics/investment criteria Develop and agree on the competitive and market intelligence framework: Define intelligence framework to assess strategic relevance of information and its impact on overall company competitiveness Become steeped in the segment and corporate strategies in order to translate identified opportunities and threats into intelligence priorities Communicate and confirm with senior leadership on the key criteria and priorities driving intelligence efforts Provide timely intelligence and recommendations that enable senior management to make decisions and take action: Focus on delivering trends, scenarios and market discontinuities that provide forward-looking insight and recommend action Provide strategic intelligence to senior management that serves as early warning indicators to opportunities and risks identified in the strategic planning process Proactively develop analysis and insights that allow decision makers to react to likely scenarios Develop tools and methods to improve intelligence exchange with senior management Gather unique information to drive intelligence effort: Cultivate a broad network of internal and external contacts to gather competitive/ market information (e.g. sales staff, competitors, customers) Tap into external forms of intelligence via experts and data sources to provide a broader view of potential scenarios and trends Manage resources associated with business intelligence effort (e.g. database subscriptions) Support departmental management in championing digital strategy initiatives Champion digital strategy and business intelligence efforts within the group: Educate Global Strategy organization on digital strategy and business intelligence and on identifying strategically relevant information Develop initiatives to improve intelligence flow and provide framework/ methodology to help the organization capture relevant information Develop tools to better gather and disseminate information to the organization A? Bachelor's degree (Master's degree preferred) A? Minimum four plus years experience in digital/online media with strong understanding of fundamental info gathering and marketing techniques: SEM, SEO, content development, content management, user-generated content, wikis, blogs, social media A? Two plus years work experience in competitive intelligence preferred A? Background in migrating traditional media to new digital platforms a plus A? Strong verbal and written communication skills including ability to interact with senior management A? Ability to distill assembled research into cohesive and insightful reports A? Effectively manages multiple parallel work streams A? Strong personal computer skills, especially in database and presentation software A? Ability to effectively network with internal and external contacts A? Strong knowledge in market, business and competitive analysis techniques such as Porter's 5 forces, SWOT, etc A? Team player with strong interpersonal and organizational skills
