Summary:
This position will afford the selected Packaging Development Engineer the opportunity to work closely with some of the most innovative packaging solutions in the consumer products industry. Under limited supervision, this position is accountable for identifying and designing new pack-types, proposing packaging alternatives, coordinating prototype development, issuing specifications, testing package feasibility and performance, and assisting in the implementation process.
Responsibilities:
- Work closely with Integrated Business Intelligence and Global Innovation Marketing to gain insight into customer and consumer needs and unmet needs, and then translate these into tangible packaging requirements.- Create and maintain packaging development timelines for input into the project management process.- Under limited supervision, manage assigned projects through planning and organizing to assure required deadlines are met. Proactively elevate any issues to supervisor that risk not meeting these required deadlines.- Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the developments and trends in packaging for possible application with The Company's present and future products. This is done by reviewing trade journals, participating in professional societies, attending trade shows and seminars, and consulting with suppliers and visiting their facilities.- Review, recommend, test and assist in the implementation of various proposals for package design. This is done by obtaining and communicating necessary information with Marketing, Product Development, Plant Engineering, Procurement, etc.; and contacting various suppliers for estimates, suggestions, or information; test package systems in laboratory, pilot plant, and production facilities.- Maintain packaging specifications. Provide packaging Bill of Materials to plants. Provide finished goods specifications for entering into SAP. Update PCM with necessary packaging information.
Qualifications:
Education:Mechanical or Packaging Engineering Degree or 10 years of equivalent experience Experience: This position can be filled at one of two levels depending on experience: Sr. Packaging Engineer: Minimum 6 Years Packaging Engineering project work. 2-4 years experience in Packaging Engineering in Consumer Foods Industry preferred. Associate Staff Packaging Engineer: Minimum 8 Years Packaging Engineering project work. 4 years experience in Packaging Engineering in Consumer Foods Industry preferred.
