The Staff Engineer will be an important member of the new HPV (GARDASIL) manufacturing facility demonstration team at the Elkton VA site. The initial assignment will be in support of process demonstration and involve writing and executing new procedures process troubleshooting performing investigations training new employees and ensuring the processes and equipment are operating reliably throughout startup. Following process demonstration the position will transition to an IPT (Integrated Process Team) technical support role with responsibility for technical support of manufacturing.


Typical routine responsibilities of an IPT Engineer are demonstration of process improvements monitoring process performance investigating atypicals and implementing corrective actions creating standard work for operations and assisting in troubleshooting. Day-to-day technical support for the biologics manufacturing area involves assignments related to quality safety environmental and operating cost goals across the fermentation purification adjuvant and sterile supply/dispensing areas. Frequent equipment and process related projects will also be required.



This position may be required to work a 12 hour rotating shift as well as have directly supervisory responsibility over a group of Production Operators. Supervisory responsibilities could include: work scheduling and union partnership to resolve employee relation issues.

Required:

Bachelor degree in Engineering or Science field
2 years experience in an engineering or operations position supporting a manufacturing process through one or more of the following roles: process improvements monitoring process performance investigating atypicals and implementing corrective actions creating standard work for operations and assisting in troubleshooting of the process.

Preferred:

Experience with technical support of a GMP (good manufacturing practices) manufacturing process
BS degree in Chemical Engineering Biotechnology or Chemistry/Biochemistry
Experience in bioprocess manufacturing
Experience with fermentation and/or purification processes for production of proteins
Supervisory experience
