The Project Scientist/Scientist will be responsible for supporting programs within the Live Virus Vaccine franchises. This position requires experience in general cell biology and virology techniques. Under the guidance of a senior staff member the Project Scientist/Scientist is responsible for the application of and conformance to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) as they apply to the functions of the group. Responsibilities include:

Conducting qualification and testing of reference materials positive controls and other materials used in support of release testing of vaccine and biological products.
Providing and ensuring bioanalytical support to Merck Manufacturing Division (MMD) sites and laboratories and other functional groups.
Performing appropriate document review and support activities associated with this position and ensuring work is compliant with all regulatory expectations.
Providing bioanalytical support in responding to regulatory questions authoring appropriate CMC sections or appropriate technical support during regulatory inspections.
Additionally the Scientist may participate on cross functional teams and in support of of laboratory investigations.

A B.S. in Biology Molecular Biology or a related biological science with at least two (2) years post-degree experience in the areas below or an M.S. in Biology Molecular Biology or a related biological science with at least one (1) year post-degree experience in all of the areas below is required for this position:

Experience in general cell biology virology and aseptic techniques as well as basic to strong technical knowledge and a high level of technical performance.
Technical aptitude and knowledge and the ability to achieve productivity by managing time priorities and personal effort.
Laboratory experience knowledge of laboratory operations and bioanalytical instrumentation.

Additional requirements also include:

Ability to work independently as well as on teams and to coordinate activities for multiple projects.
Strong written and oral communication skills original and imaginative thinking in developing creative ideas.
Persuasion and influence skills.
