Reproductive Health Assistant
Bloomington, IL Health Center
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Practice a customer-oriented approach to health care delivery.
2. Educate and counsel patients in reproductive health matters.
3. Perform, or assist in the performance of routine laboratory tests, including phlebotomy.
4. Provide surgical support services in the utility area and/or the procedure room.
5. Maintain medical records and logs and perform other routine clerical duties.
6. Answer health center telephones, schedule patient appointments, and otherwise respond to patient inquiries and needs including fee assessment and insurance coverage.
7. Participate in health center efforts to comply with organizational quality assurance guidelines and pertinent government regulations including OSHA and CLIA.
8. Participate in health center efforts to achieve medical visit and productivity goals.
9. Participate in health center efforts to attain annual health center fiscal goals in revenue, expenses, and contribution margin.
Specific Duties:
1. Demonstrate proficiency in all duties related to taking patient appointments and maintenance of medical records.
2. Provide accurate, complete information and education to clients concerning the risks and benefits of family planning methods, basic reproductive and family planning services offered by PPIL, and the availability of related services within the PPIL system
3. Conduct interviews with patients and assist the patient in understanding and completing medical histories, consent forms, and other information related to her visit.
4. Perform, or assist in the performance of routine laboratory tests.
5. Assist in the provision of contraceptive supplies, and provide information and instructions for their use, as appropriate and delegated by the Health Center Manager and medical staff.
Qualifications:
Education:
Completion of an accredited high school program or equivalent required; further education and/or training preferred. Additional training and/or education in reproductive health or medical services are desirable.
Experience:
Previous professional experience with the provision of family planning services is preferred. Previous medical laboratory and/or counseling experience desirable, as well as familiarity with computer databases.
Personal & Professional Qualities:
Commitment to the efficient and customer-oriented provision of services.
Excellent communication skills. Ability to communicate with patients, the public, staff, and volunteers in a professional, warm, and sensitive manner. Bi-lingual ability in Spanish is helpful.
High energy level, organizational skills and attention to detail required. Willingness to participate in a team approach to health care.
Must be willing and able to work a schedule that may include evening and weekend hours, and to work at other PPIL centers if needed.
