Organizational Description: Telegraph Hill Neighborhood Center (Tel-Hi) is a nonprofit organization which provides services and advocacy for residents of northeast San Francisco. Founded in 1890 by Alice Griffith and Elizabeth Ashe, Tel-Hi provides opportunities for individuals and families to enrich their quality of life. Focusing on low- to moderate income children, youth, families, and seniors, we create and strengthen community bonds, provide health and wellness programs, and broaden education and cultural experiences. Program services include: Preschool (2 ½ to 5 years), After School Academy (K-5th grade), Expanded Learning Program (6th-8th grades), North Beach Place Teen Center, Senior Program, and Community Convener—Tel-Hi serves 600 individuals each day.

Expanded Learning Program:
The mission of the Expanded Learning Program (ELP) at Francisco Middle School (FMS) is to provide students with a fun and safe space after school, offering academic support, enrichment, and youth development opportunities. The ELP serves over 120 adolescents by providing tutorial sessions, enrichment activities, and youth development opportunities to meet the needs of the diverse student population. The majority of students we work with are low-income and live in neighborhoods throughout San Francisco—including Chinatown, Tenderloin, Western Addition, South of Market, Bayview and Hunter’s Point districts. The majority of our students speak English as their second language.

Position Requirements:
Minimum qualifications include: Ability to manage all aspects of a school-based after school program including staff supervision, contract management, budgeting and financial oversight, youth recruitment/ registration and curriculum development. We are seeking candidates with proven supervision and leadership skills, excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills, and an ability to work well with a diverse population of children, families, staff, and volunteers. Ideally the candidate will have a thorough understanding of public school systems. DOJ, FBI and Child Abuse Index clearance will be required. People of color and bilingual applicants that speak English and Cantonese or Spanish are strongly encouraged to apply.

Position Responsibilities:
The ELP Director works under the supervision of the Tel-Hi Associate Director of Programs and the Director of Francisco Connection, and in collaboration with teachers and parents to design, implement, and evaluate a culturally and developmentally appropriate curriculum to support academic, enrichment, social, and emotional development of all participants. The ELP Director works in partnership with FMS, all other on-site youth programs at FMS (as coordinated by Francisco Connection), and School Health Programs Department (SFUSD).
