We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Process Scientist or Process Engineer to join the Virology Process & Engineering (VPE) team within Viral Vaccine Technology and Engineering (VVTE). The VPE team is part of Merck Manufacturing Division (MMD) at West Point PA.



Qualified individuals will provide technical support to licensed vaccine areas and will utilize process and laboratory derived data to support technical investigations and aide in process optimization/development. The candidate must have experience with cell culture aseptic technique and bioreactors. Experience with a variety of biochemical molecular and cell biology techniques such as viral plaque assays flow cyotmetry ELISA Western Blots and qRT-PCR is desirable. The successful candidate will be primarily responsible for the generation and analysis of data from a broad range of cellular and biochemical studies aimed at improving current processes with limited supervision. Furthermore the candidate must be able to work efficiently in a high paced environment collaborate well with others and have excellent interpersonal skills.



Primary activities include but are not limited to the following:

Conduct laboratory experiments to support technical investigations and implement sustainable long term process improvements.
Develop new assays to characterize and monitor current vaccine manufacturing.


PhD with 3+ years experience in microbiology biochemistry molecular biology biology chemical/biochemical engineering or similar.
Required:

Must have strong problem solving skills as demonstrated by a consistent track record of innovative solutions for technical problems.
Strong laboratory skills and a track record of spending >50% of current and past work function in the laboratory.
Excellent organization interpersonal verbal/written communication skills.
3+ years of documented experience working with cell culture and aseptic technique

Preferred:

2+ year experience working with bioreactors is desirable.
Strong technical background in molecular/cell biology/virology experience a plus.
