Design, develop and implement procedures and programs that will help to build a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with safety, health and security regulations.
Key areas of knowledge and experience important to this position are :

Behavioral Based Safety - Working experience with behavioral based safety programs and a proven track record of achieving safety improvement through employee involvement.
Safety teams – Experience leading safety teams, both management and employee led.
Life critical safety procedures (hot work, confined space entry, excavations, elevated work, electrical safety, LOTO) – Experience developing and implementing effective, OSHA compliant procedures and safe work practices.
OSHA compliance – In depth knowledge of OSHA personnel safety and general duty requirements and interpretations. Experience in assessing recordability of injuries and illnesses and maintaining OSHA logs. Ability to resolve compliance issues in a positive manner, utilizing engineering tools where appropriate.
Process safety knowledge is a plus.
Personal Protective Equipment - well versed in PPE selection and establishment of requirements.
Work Permits – Development, improvement and implementation of work permit and other work processes that support safe work in the plant.
Hazard communication - Experience in design, development and implementation of Hazcom programs.

Procedure Development

Experience developing and implementing safety and health procedures
Experience developing training materials and delivering safety training to manufacturing personnel

Auditing

Monitoring of safety practices and equipment through routine field audits. Some of the various audits will include: compliance with housekeeping Goals, compliance with safety programs/policies/procedures within the Company, and assurance that a safe work environment exists for all employees.
Assist with the development and ongoing tracking and reporting of leading indicators for measuring EH&S performance.
Provide feed back to work groups and assist in identifying and completing any needed corrective actions.

Emergency Response and Security

Provide vacation coverage and back up for these functions

Industrial Hygiene

Assists with the approval and review of PPE used.
Interface with the corporate IH Specialist on implementation of IH programs.

Required Skills:
 

Ability to lead and/or participate in teams successfully
Working at multiple levels in the organization
Managing multiple projects and priorities
Excellent communication skills and ability to influence others

Experience Required:

Bachelor of Science degree in Safety Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Hygiene or equivalent experience.
5+ years experience in the petrochemical industry.
Experience in industrial fire fighting / emergency response a plus.
Background in plant operations or maintenance is a plus.
