Relay and Control Designer

Position will prepare and develop One Line, Schematic, and wiring diagrams, electric substation construction prints. Develop material lists for Relay, Control, Metering, and Substation projects; has knowledge of and utilizes standards for various types of protective relaying. Work closely with other design team members, including Relay and Substation Engineers, to coordinate overall design package. General Purpose: Assist in the development of databases, layouts, technical specifications and materials lists under the general supervision of the Relay & Control and Substation Engineer. Direct the efforts of drafters and junior grade technicians as required to complete a project. Direct the flow of drafting / technician workload as requested. Assist in insuring that design schedules are met on assigned projects. Provide project status information to the project engineer on a regular basis and without prompting. Provide a detailed design package that complies with applicable substation engineering design standards and all safety codes.

Skills/Competencies:

• Relay & Control Standards knowledge
• Analysis and design skills involving application of engineering methods to design, develop, modify, and evaluate systems, processes, or facilities to support Client objectives.
• Substation Layout and Design preferred
• Background knowledge in equipment sizing, grounding, bus and conductor sizing, and/or insulation coordination highly preferred
• Group coordination and communication skills

Must Have:

• Requires knowledge and often certification in CAD drafting and increasing work experience and supervisory skills in areas of Relay Engineering.
• At least five years of experience in the Electric Utility industry with additional experience considered.
• Autocad, Word, Excel (Microstation experience a plus)
• Title and salary will be based on experience and other qualifications.
• Interpersonal skills in working in a team environment required.
