Substation Designer

Responsible for substation design for high voltage substation projects through 500kv. Depending upon complexity of the project, the candidate may prepare, provide guidance, or assist in preparing and developing the design deliverables for electric substation projects – including physical conceptual layouts, general arrangements, electrical schematic, detailed physical layouts, and placement of substation equipment. Detailed knowledge of power utilization equipment and application considerations, including the various types of switchgear, capacitors, breakers, transformers, CT/VTs, arrestors, and disconnect switches is required. Candidate will be responsible for working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements. Other duties include providing direction and guidance to drafters and designers, directing the flow of drafting and designer duties, insuring design scheduled are met, including regularly providing project status updates to Project Engineer. Responsible for handling multiple projects and providing a detailed design package that complies with applicable substation engineering design standards and all safety codes.

Required Qualifications:

• Either a graduate from a college or university with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 2 to 4 years of experience and Associate Degree in Engineering Technology (or equivalent), or 5 to 10 years of equivalent experience with no degree
• Proven AutoCad and/or Microstation skills
• Experience in the utility industry
