This position will reside in MBV ( Merck Bioventures) in Rahway NJ.

In this role you will have the opportunity to:

* Plan and execute experiments to characterize the molecular cellular and in vivo properties of test molecules.
* Under general scientific and administrative direction from the department head carry out independent research designs plans and implement advanced studies aimed at achieving research goals.
* Assignments are broadly and generally described; the general objectives and approaches are discussed and agreement is reached on the broad approaches.
* Present to scientific staff reporting to you overall objectives for the research programs projects and delegate specific assignments.
* Provide technical guidance for each program.
* Exercise leadership in stimulating the group to high standards of research excellence.
* Ascertain that work on each program is performed efficiently and on schedule.
* Coordinate and report on research programs and make recommendations for initiating terminating or continuing programs.
* Interpret screening results as well as coordinate the testing of test samples with PCD and BPRD.
* Review the performance of each reporting staff member and suggest ways to develop and improve technical competency.
* Recommend merit increases promotions or other actions for personnel directly supervised in addition to the associates reporting into direct reports.
* Initiate motivate stimulate and develop the enthusiasm for the approved programs.
* Mature and develop within your field of specialization by collaborating with associates and lab heads as well as publishing studies.

Education Requirement:

* PhD or equivalent in an accredited scientific discipline from an accredited university or college or equivalent

Required:

* A minimum of 8 years laboratory experience supervising laboratory personnel
* Excellent communication and written skills required to summarize and explain experimental findings
* Excellent team player
