Candidate Responsibilities An individual in this position is expected to drive all elements of the Systems Engineering function (composed of Systems Design and System Integration elements) and is responsible for pursuit of functional excellence, process management, personnel management and delivery of workproducts to projects for the section. The Systems Engineering function delivers the following typical lifecycle workproducts (and drive the execution of the underlying activities): product requirements specifications, feasibility, top level design, interface specifications, hazard mitigation and flow-down of key specifications to subsystem building blocks, integration plans, and key system-level design reviews.
The Systems Engineering function drives technical activities necessary to realize the sum total end-product, starting with analysis of customer insight and culminating in an integrated, verified and validated end-product that may be commercially released. The Systems Engineering function within the organization is expected to align and lead all cross-functional technical activities (i.e. software, mechanical, electrical, physics, V&V), in addition to Systems Engineering resources within committed PRP projects.
Technical choices and deliverables from this function have a strong impact on the BU's long term success.

o Develop and execute a strategic plan to obtain breakthrough level improvement in efficiency and effectiveness of Systems Engineering section.
o Actively promote the use of structured methodologies (i.e. DFSS, DFR) to realize the systems engineering deliverables
• Process Management –
o Support development of common, global way of working. Ensure unit has an articulated way of working (i.e. key process steps to complete unit project deliverables with expected quality), with verification points and process and product quality and completion metrics to provide in-process insight and early warning.
o Collaboratively execute section level plans, with strong alignment with peer functions (e.g. Global Physics, Global V&V, Global Software), Marketing, GRAD and the scientific director.
