reports directly to the company President to manage, implement, and deliver product initiatives and services for the nation's largest private experiential learning company. Learning outside of the classroom has built our company and we know that to remain relevant and competitive, we need to branch into new frontiers of learning, including subscription services, simulations (both virtual and live), digital solutions, and other learning and coaching materials, tools and websites.This manager will be responsible for identifying new product ideas, developing and testing product concepts, and developing sound business plans for new product initiatives. The Product Development Director will also serve as the internal product champion, creating and executing the go to market strategy and serving as the lead project manager during the development phase through successful product launch. The Director of Product Development
will lead the overall product strategy, with an emphasis on digital-related services.
The desired candidate will be a technically proficient self starter and strong but collaborative leader.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Formalize and manage the product development process from end to end, including idea generation, concept development and approval, and launch execution.
* Conceive and develop a Product Blueprint; Identify and develop new products and services that serve parents, students and educators.
* Create product business plans, and marketing strategy documents that accurately describe a business opportunity, key resource requirements and timelines, competitive environment, pricing, positioning, and distribution.
* Work as part of a team to execute redevelopment and repositioning of existing products.
* Lead relationship development to create program extensions and identify and assess third party products worthy of our brand.
* Conceive new digital product lines, utilizing current publishing technology and e-product delivery.
* Create proforma P&Ls and financial projections.
* Develop detailed product description documents that provide clear and thorough requirements for vendors, editorial, web design, and technology.
* Facilitate all cross-functional team communication and coordination. Serve as the project manager for all phases of the development process, including working closely with Sales, Marketing, Education, Technology, Finance and the executive team to bring a product to successful launch on-time and on-budget.
Qualifications:
* 8 years experience in consumer product development in an educational publishing, e-commerce or digital product environment
* Strong ability to develop relationship and identify and vet third party products and services
* Knowledgeable about (or strong interest in learning about) education
* A solid understanding of the principles and practices of product marketing
* Fluency in current web application technologies including Web 2.0 and associated current and emerging technologies and best practices
* Knowledgeable in content management and web publishing
* Knowledgeable about product support infrastructures and services
* A thorough understanding of editorial and production costs
* Strong project management skills required
* Excellent communication, negotiation skills required
* Excellent organizational skills required
* MBA or equivalent experience
