Islamic Finance Correspondent - Middle East (based in Dubai)
We are looking for an energetic self-starter to spearhead Reuters' Islamic finance coverage in the Middle East. This position will seek to address increasing demand for IF news across all sectors, from debt and equity news to regulatory issues, insurance and sovereign wealth. The successful applicant will have a keen interest in Islamic finance, a nuanced understanding of traditional market dynamics, and a track record of breaking news and providing insightful stories and analyses. He/She will have experience building contacts and getting beats and exclusives in opaque markets. The position will involve close coordination with colleagues covering IF issues elsewhere in the company, including multimedia. The candidate must be prepared to build up a wide-ranging contact list to support coverage of all branches of the fast-growing Islamic finance market, from sukuk issuance and listing to product launches. The candidate will be able to spot investment trends and write analytical stories on developments in the industry. Coverage of conferences and briefings both in the country and the region where the reporter operates will be an integral part of everyday duties. The reporter must also be comfortable writing about regulatory issues directly and indirectly affecting the development of Islamic finance and produce original comments (e.g. blogs).
- at least five years financial reporting experience
- experience covering debt and equity markets
- knowledge of Islamic finance issues
- good teamworking skills
- emerging and mature markets experience a plus
- Arabic a plus
