Primary duties to include, but are not limited to: Calculates renewal rates for group cases based on analysis of group's experience, industry and demographics. Prepares annual settlements, ERISA reports, rate projections and post sale review.

Responsible for determining acceptability of insurance risks & appropriate premium rates for large & complex group cases. Position is the most senior technical underwriting expert. Primary duties to include, but are not limited to: Calculates renewal rates for large complex cases based on thorough analysis of experience, location, demographics, etc. Determines & provides guidance to medical underwriters concerning the risk selection of applicants applying for individual health coverage. Coordinates with other departments to ensure accuracy & consistency of overall account reporting. Proposes rates for prospective business utilizing a combination of other carrier experience, demographic data & manual rates. Performs post-sale reviews. Prepares or supervises preparation of annual settlements, ERISA reports, rate projections, or benefit change increments & decrements. Surveys existing product portfolios by market, monitors sales results, trends & needs, recommends product portfolio changes. Assists in establishing rating & administrative procedures. Participates in major multi-functional teams as underwriting representative. Assists in the technical development of underwriting associates, which may include monitoring reports & work flow to provide recommendations on productivity & efficiency improvements. Updates & monitors departmental processes & procedures in compliance with system, regulatory & business requirements.

Skills:
The ideal candidate will have: Group Underwriter IRequires a BA/BS degree in a related field or 2 years of experience in Underwriting; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA or other insurance related courses preferred. Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication skills and good analytical skills required. Group Underwriter IIRequires a BA/BS degree in a related field required; 3 years of experience in Underwriting; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA or other insurance related courses preferred. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills required. Group Underwriter SrRequires a BA/BS degree in a related field; 3 - 5 years of directly related experience; or any combination of education and experience, which would provide an equivalent background. CPCU, CLU, LOMA, HIAA or other insurance related courses preferred. Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills required.
