In a nutshell: The ideal candidate MUST come out of a smaller, ecommerce environment and will have experience planning, designing and building a highly scalable and robust technical web infrastructure. The ideal candidate will have a background in a web startups who feels equally comfortable diving into writing code as well as hands on systems administration work. MUST be at a very high level Architecture level using Java/ruby/python, working in a LAMP environment and have a strong working knowledge of web services, ie. Tomcat, Appache, etc.

My client is growing ecommerce Java shop built on mostly open source software (Apache, Linux, MySQL, Memcached, MogileFS, Hbase/Hadoop, ...). I am looking for “doers” over “talkers”, mentors over managers, and self-management over bureaucracy. They are a company where people who take risks and win, are rewarded and grow. Seeking an experienced Leader/Doer to sit in a role that crosses software development, systems, and DBA with the sole focus on performance, capacity, and reliability.

You would be responsible for:
~Being a leader and a coach to the systems team.
~Health of the production, development, and QA infrastructure.
~The data environment (MySQL and Hadoop/Hbase).
~Proposing *and* implementing architecture changes (systems, data model, or code) in order to make Architecture more scalable/reliable.
~Developing and launching a rapid disaster recovery plan.
~Being a senior leader in the company ... more mentors are always needed and wanted. The right person:
~Must be a Rockstar Coder (Java necessary, Perl/Python/Ruby would be awesome).
~Has solid Linux Administration skills.
~Has data modeling experience using MySQL/Innodb.
~Has high traffic web experience.
~Has scaled systems w/ little budget (we have the ability to buy solutions, but not too impressive to hear about people scaling on a large budget).
~Values working as part of a team over being the solo hero. ~Has the ability and the desire to be “very” hands on. ~Can't imagine not working at a startup.
~Is a self manager and loves to get things quickly w/out sacrificing quality.
