1. All candidates must qualify for a US government security clearance (secret) and therefore MUST be a US citizen.
2. Although this position involves telecommuting, all applicants must be within 1-2 hours (or reasonable) commute by either car or train only of the Washington DC metro area.
Welcome. We are Dark Corner Software, a small custom software firm based in the DC metro area. We are currently seeking full-time permanent Java developers to both develop new software and to work on customization and expansion of existing products. Our current projects include developing custom networking software to work over tactical (MANets) and wireless networks. We deploy our software to challenging field environments, and require skilled developers to work with clients to assess requirements and create the software to meet those requirements. As we are a 70% telecommuting company, developers need to be experienced at interacting remotely with users and with other developers using issue tracking, wikis, and other technologies. Evidence of operating independently and effective production in that environment is a strong asset to a potential candidate.
All candidates must have actively written and implemented Java code and have done so recently. Ideally, you have done a wide variety of Java projects and are up on all the latest developments in Java. Specifically, candidates must have strong knowledge of Java language development (J2SE, Swing, Multithreaded). Desired skills include networking and Hibernate. Also useful would be experience with developing statistical software, using Maven, as well as the following technologies: JMX, JAXB, JAX-WS, REST, JNI, C/C++. A background in network programming, particularly work with multicast, is of special interest but more than any specific technology, we are looking for developers with a broad background and a track record of learning new technologies and techniques. Candidates need to have a BS in Computer Science or related field and should have at least 3 years of experience developing software. Having developed desktop applications is a definite plus.
All developers work mainly from home and travel to client locations to support deployment of products. Travel is in the 20% range. This travel tends to happen in bursts and is centered around software releases and field support efforts. It can sometimes come up on short notice but seldom is more than 3-4 days at a time. As we also have company face-to-face meetings and a client base in the area, candidates should be within reasonable (1-2 hour) commuting distance by car or train only from the Washington DC metro area.
This position is full time. Compensation is competitive or better, in the 60k to 120k range, and is based on experience. DCS provides a range of benefits including fully paid health care and a 401(k) plan to all employees.
