Click Here to Apply Online The RNFA is a perioperative registered nurse who works in collaboration with the surgeon and health care team members to achieve optimal patient outcomes. A RN must have acquired the necessary knowledge, judgement, and skills specific to the expanded role of RNFA clinical practice. Intraoperatively, the RNFA practices at the direction of the surgeon and does not concurrently function as a scrub nurse and / or circulator. THE RNFA job responsibilities are all intraoperative and include: Assists surgeons, working interdependently and under their direction. Function include, but are not limited to the following: Surgical preparatory procedures (foley, NC insertion); Preoperative skin preparation Positioning the patient Draping the patient Providing Hemostasis Providing exposure Properly handling tissue Properly using instruments Suturing Cleansing surgical area and application of dressings, and Other duties as requested by the surgeon that fall within the scope of licensure Minimum Requirements: Graduation from an accredited Baccalaureate Professional Nursing Program required Five years experience in an operating room desired, three years of direct scrub experience required Current NYS licensure as a Registered Professional Nurse BLS and ACLS certification is required RNFA Certification is required CNOR is required Position requires extensive mobility with regular sitting and walking Ability to do lifting, potential for heavy lifting. Category I risk exposure as defined by OSHA; Standing for long periods of time.
