Position Description
Senior level position requiring expert knowledge of the Marine Liability product line. Applies advanced principles, theories and concepts. Decisions have a profound impact on the organization. With minimal administrative direction, exercises latitude in judgment in the identification and resolution of complex underwriting and related business issues as well as in the design, development and implementation of product line strategies, projects and programs having impact on global growth and profitability.
Essential Functions:
The position has Marine Liability product responsibility for company reporting to the Global Marine Hull & Marine Liability Sr. Vice President. The job function includes assisting to develop effective global underwriting, loss control and claims strategies as well as underwriting guidelines, pricing standards and policy wordings. Additionally, this position will be accountable for:
• Executive against growth and profitability goals and objectives;
• Providing effective training to underwriting and sales force;
• Assessing product competencies and assigning appropriate underwriting authority;
• Handling risk referrals;
• Product oversight, including underwriting audits per company standards;
• Provide direct underwriting support as necessary.
As a member of the Product Management team:
• Identify and recommend new markets, products, services and tools, as well as marketing, distribution and underwriting strategies.
• Develop and produce underwriting / pricing guidelines and related training material.
• Support the identification of business requirements and methodologies.
• Analyze and interpret data, identify and report on trends and findings; develop recommendations to improve current business
• Lead the documentation and knowledge sharing of product expertise including business requirements, distribution strategies and technology needs.
• Understands competitive differentiators, geographical differences and industry make-up.
• Gathers information on competitive trends, product line trends, producer trends and the external environment, including legal, economic, demographic and distribution trends.
• Monitors product results and develops proposals to maximize profitability.
• Directs the development and/or implementation of products and programs.
• Identify, develop and implement underwriting policy, procedural and program changes in accordance with the underwriting strategies and regulatory environment in concert with the Product Management team.
• Coach, mentor and train staff to ensure profitable business results. Have responsibility for product line book management including business analysis, product management and business strategy within a designated territory for a designated line of business.

Skills/Experience Required

Knowledge, Skill & Competency Requirements:
General Background / Skills:
• Business Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience with coursework/experience emphasis in maritime industry, finance, accounting, economics and/or marketing. Applicable experience could serve as a substitute for education requirements.
• Strong planning, negotiation and organization skills.
• Demonstrates strong communication (verbal, written, listening and presentation) skills.
• Knowledge of insurance industry, agency operations, insurance laws/ regulations and general business operations.
Underwriting and Underwriting Management Skills:
• Knowledge of best practices, tools, and the use of techniques for assessing potential exposures and determining conditions to offer coverage.
