POSITION SUMMARY The dietitian plans, directs and provides nutritional care to patients and conducts nutrition assessments. Dietitian offers education to patient and family members, in-service and training to food service and other departments as needed. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not an employment agreement or contract. Management has the exclusive right to alter this job description at any time without notice. -Conducts patient nutritional assessments and monitors patient diets; -Follows established criteria to determine patient nutritional status; -Monitors patient meal consumption; -Monitors patient weight and fluid intake; -Updates chart information as appropriate to patient continuous care; -Attends staffing, planning, and family conferences as required; -Provides pertinent information to physician or other staff or team members to provide quality care for patients; -Meets with physicians, nurses, and therapists on formal and informal basis regarding nutritional concerns of individual patients; -Documents all pertinent information regarding patients nutritional care and education provided in the patients medical record; -Orders appropriate diets according to Scope of Practice and St. Elias Specialty Hospital policy; -Adjusts nutrition and fluid orders according to Scope of Practice and Hospital policy; ? Conducts nutritional follow-up upon patients discharge if requested; -Provides patient nutrition education as per Physicians orders; -Recommends appropriate additional education if warranted; -Maintains files of appropriate education materials and proper literacy levels as deemed necessary; -Conducts test trays and or check trays as appropriate; -Provides appropriate inservice education as deemed necessary by FSD or CQI monitors; -Continuously supports and educates the food service staff to provide proper food and meals to the patient population. -Works within scope of practice and St. JOB SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES This job description is not an employment agreement or contract. Experience: POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Licenses and Certification: Certified by the American Dietetic Association; licensed in the State of Alaska or eligible to become licensed. BLS certification.

Total Education, Vocational Training, and Experience: Bachelors degree in dietetics, foods and nutrition. Masters degree preferred in dietetics or nutrition science.

Two years hospital inpatient experience preferred; experience working with adult/geriatric population preferred.

Must have thorough knowledge of dietetics, nutrition, and administration and dietary services. Must be familiar with methods of teaching and principles of education and must possess thorough knowledge of theory and practice of dietetics including physiology and digestion processes of the human body, nutritional requirements of individuals of varying ages, cultures,
