Surgical Technician

Job Summary:

The Surgical Technician assists in surgical operations under the supervision of surgeons, registered nurses or other surgical personnel. Primarily responsible for preparing the operating room by setting up the equipment and sterilizing tools that are necessary for the operation and assisting during surgical procedures as requested.


Education/Work Experience Requirements:

Graduate of an accredited school for Surgical Technologist.
Minimum of one (1) year experience working in a Surgical Tech position, preferred. Will also train without experience if certified.

Licensure/Certification:

Current C.S.T. or eligible.
Current CPR certification or successful completion of Basic Life Support within 30 days of employment.
ACLS and PALS within 90 days of employment.

Job Knowledge/Skills:

Assist with the care of patient in the Operating Room by performing routine and assigned duties according to the scope of individual educational preparation and experience.
Abides by AORN standards of practice, Association of Surgical Technologist standards and, the Policies of SMMC/CHS.
Assist with routine operational functions in the OR under the direct supervision of the surgical RN.
Reports to Director of Preoperative Services.
Maintains a good working rapport with the surgeons and co-workers.
Assists the surgeons with procedures done in the OR and, at the request of the surgeons, with approval from the Director.
May assist outside the OR on special procedures.
