Medical Laboratory Technologist
Job Summary:

The Medical Lab Technician (MLT) utilizes skills and training to perform test of samples of blood, urine and other body fluids to obtain information utilized in diagnosis and evaluation of a patient s medical situations. Participates in Performance Improvement activities to assure continuous Quality Improvement. Maintains cultural and diversity awareness when dealing with patients, visitors, co-workers and all other customers. Promotes a supportive, team-work oriented environment. Fulfills departmental responsibilities with the long-range plan, mission, vision and values of the hospital.


Education/Work Experience Requirements:

Graduation from an accredited Medical Technology School
Associates degree in Medical Technology or High School Diploma.
Five (5) years experience in Medical Technology.
Meet all CLIA requirements for high complexity, moderate complexity and waived testing.
At least two (2) years of experience in a hospital or medically related environment.
Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served.
Licensure/Certification:

Texas State license required.
National Registration as an MLT (ASCP) or AMT or current application submitted for registry, pending exam.
Basic Life Saving (BLS) Healthcare Provider certification required within 90 days of hire or promotion.
Job Knowledge/Skills:

Knowledge of techniques and equipment relating to the routine to complex laboratory analysis of patient samples.
Knowledge of the standard, protocols and regulatory requirements relating to laboratory analysis.
Knowledge of meaning and usage of medical laboratory terminology.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships as required by the duties of the position.
Ability to maintain and troubleshoot laboratory equipment.
Ability to use automated systems and office equipment at an acceptable level of proficiency.
