The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) in the Emergency  a professional nurse, an expert practitioner in emergency nursing and a member of the ED nursing leadership team who implements the mission and philosophy. The CNS shares overall management responsibility for the Emergency Department. The CNS serves as a consultant, teacher and role model to the Emergency department nursing staff. The CNS contributes to the delivery of patient care through development and support of nursing staff, collaboration with patients and their families and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. The CNS is the nursing champion to the medical staff and collaborates with the highest degree of competency in the area of nursing research and nursing professional practice. The Clinical Nurse Specialist is an expert in clinical practice and functions in the role domains of clinical practice, consultation, education, research/clinical outcomes and population management drawn from the highest standards of evidenced-based benchmarks and practice. The CNS empowers nursing staff through education, consultation, clinical support and the development of supportive programs and standards of care. The CNS recommends improvements in standards of practice. This person serves as an advisor to direct care porviders and participates in special projects and related duties.
Education/Experience:  A Master's degree in Nursing is required. Licensed by the Mass State board of nursing as a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS). Nursing certification in Emergency Nursing (CEN). Evidence of appropriate continuing education. Able to address clinical problems by analyzing, synthesizing, and integrating current research and best practice models. Ability to communicate effectively and work interdependently with others. Adaptability, flexibility and the ability to recognize and respond to the human dignity in those we serve. Bilinqual preferred (indicate language preference). Nursing education and quality improvement experience preferred. Outstanding interpersonal skills. Excellent project development and management skills. Excellent communication and negotiation skills including ability to create appealing presentations utilizing a wide variety of computer programs. Ability to work independently, conduct evidence-based nursing research and present research conclusions to both nursing and physician groups. Excellent critical thinking skills.
