Nurse Manager - Behavioral Health - FT Exempt position
 

Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
Current license in the State of Iowa.
Satisfactory performance in staff nurse or charge nurse role for a minimum of five years required.
Demonstrated competence in leadership skills.
Ability to plan, direct, implement, and evaluate the nursing care delivered to a group of patients.
BSN required.
Able to meet the physical demands as described in the ADA forms on file int he Human Resources Department.
Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively with all levels of unit personnel, as well as physicians, families, visitors and to manage the activities of a diverse group of professional, nonprofessional and clerical employees.
Possesses active listening skills.
Planning skills to develop goals and objectives in concert with those of the hospital and implements action plans to meet those goals.
Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvements as well as positive problem resolution.
Teaching abilities to promote optimum orientation and continuing education of staff.
Budgeting skills to control fiscal operations of selected unit and/or area of responsibility and to identify and explain variances.
Has current knowledge of healthcare trends and issues and relates same to hospital and work area environment.
Occasional prolonged standing, walking, sitting.
Computer literate.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities


Strives to incorporate the philosophy and mission of hospital by consistently exemplifying the core values of Caring, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence when interactig with others.
Using the nursing process, provides comprehensive nursing care incorporating principles and theories of nursing and related fields while applying discerning judgment in responding to unpredictable, as well as predictable, patient needs and responses in achieving identified patient outcome.
Reviews nursing assessment completed by staff, including the nursing history and physical/psychosocial assessment of patients.  Recognizes subtle differences from individual patient and group norm and assists staff in incorporating these into the nursing diagnosis.
Assists staff in formatting desired outcomes and developing individualized care plans based on the nursing diagnosis and the plan of care.  Assists staff in identifying and prioritizing nursing actions including teaching and emotional support for the patient and significant others.
Assists the staff in implementing plan of care and delegated portions of the medical plan in a cost-effective manner.
Assists Clinical Director in monitoring outcomes of clinical initiatives and public reported measures.
Identifies need for new policies or procedures and assists in development of same, assuring evidenced-based practice.
Facilitates the organized and timely transfer of patients and movement of patient to other departments.
Completes daily patient rounds and a weekly patient care conference (minimum).
Supports the unit based quality improvement intiatives in data collection, data evaluation, and implementation of action plans, assuring quality improvement outcomes.
Provides leadership, teaching, and supervision to nursing support staff to ensure that appropriate patient care is delivered and assists the Clinical Director with the administrative function of the unit.
Assists Clinical Director in delegating aspects of care to others based upon patient needs and the skill levels of the support staff.  Assists the Clinical Director in assuring that proper care is provided and that all required work on the shift is completed.
Maintains professional and technical competence in order to provide professional nursing care consistent with accepted standards of practice and care.
Active in professional organizations.
Follows established procedures and standards in unit activities to establish, validate and refine those standards and procedures.
Assists Director with administrative functions of the unit.
Interviews candidates for employment as assigned and provides input for selection to the Clinical Director.
Accountable for unit staffing needs.  Develops and reviews staffing schedule using One Staff and maintains a current and actual schedule.
