Responsibilities:Contribute to defining research team goals and collaborate with scientists within and outside functional area in achieving them; Assume leadership responsibility for projects or participate as representative on multiple project teams and contribute to defining expertise-related aspects of overall program goals Independently design and perform scientific experiments associated with research programs in the area of multiple sclerosis. Develop new methodologies, protocols and or test procedures that contribute to core group/research goals and reflect expert knowledge; Direct and oversee experimental design and results of technicians and junior level scientists Prepare clear technical reports, publications and oral presentations. Independently communicate results in the form of reports and/ or presentations; Effectively deliver updates to senior level management in context of overall project goals Develop broad knowledge in field of multiple sclerosis and immunology / inflammation, including the ability to interpret current literature relevant to R&D projects, and visibility outside of functional area Assume responsibility for direct reports as needed including recruiting, managing, mentoring and developing scientific staff Comply with all applicable regulations; Ensure that work performed in area of responsibility is conducted in a safe and compliant manner; Maintain proper records in accordance with SOPs and policies Contribute to departmental administration. Requirements: Ph.D. Degree or equivalent with 5 years related experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry Strong experience in the area of multiple sclerosis and working knowledge of the cellular and biochemical processes underlying the disease Demonstrated hands-on experience with biochemical and/or cellular assays associated with studying the pathophysiology of multiple sclerosis Experience in identification and validation of novel drug targets in immunology and inflammation Ability to identify and manage outside collaborations with academia and / or biotechnology companies Strong knowledge of the drug discovery process and experience serving on project teams. Demonstrated leadership of drug discovery projects is preferred. Experience in managing direct reports and development of scientific staff Excellent written and verbal communication skills. .
