Responsibilities: Directs and oversees zoning and building code enforcement staff and activities; acts as the primary staff liaison to the Planning Commission; manages staff to the Design Review Board; provides staff assistance and acts as technical advisor to the Planning Commission, the Design Review Board and higher level members of city management in matters related to a wide variety of planning services activities and programs; reviews complex development proposals; resolves difficult planning and administration questions; resolves difficult planning related problems and questions; monitors and ensures compliance with state and federal laws and regulations pertaining to land use activities; may assist in the development and administration of the Department's budget; assigns work activities, projects and programs; monitors work flow; reviews and evaluates work products, methods and procedures; coordinates Department activities with those of other departments and outside agencies and organizations; prepares and presents staff reports and other necessary correspondence; acts in the capacity of Director in the absence of the Director; collects, compiles, analyzes and presents economic and demographic data about the community; participates in the establishment of economic development goals and priorities; aggressively recruits desired businesses into the community; implements a business outreach program aimed at assisting existing businesses in the City; initiates contact with businesses interested in investing in the community; assists businesses in locating sites for new development; assists businesses in processing local permit approvals; maintains current information about tools for financing business and industrial investment; analyzes federal and state legislation pertaining to planning, redevelopment/economic development and housing activities..
