POSITION DETAILS
The Director of Transportation - Bus will manage and direct operates bus and light rail service essential to the region's mobility and provides resources for carpooling and bike commuting. In 2008, provided nearly 82 million rides on 118 bus routes utilizing a fleet of 900 buses and 27 light rail trains. Director of Bus Transportation responsible for providing department-level management and leadership to the Bus Transportation Department and fully support the goals and objectives of the Operations Division. As a member of the senior management team this position directs, plans, organizes, and controls the operation of bus transit service with a budget of $98 million; advises the executive management team and Transportation Committee in areas of transportation; supervises managers and other direct reports. Establishes operating policies and procedures; maintains positive employee relations; monitors performance standards and staff development. Directs strategic planning initiatives related to operations; participates in collective bargaining and participates in grievances and arbitrations as deemed necessary.

QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree plus eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation, equipment maintenance, transit operations or project management in a large transit institution environment or twelve (12) years of qualifying experience without a degree.
Five (5) years of progressive management experience including supervision, budget/financial development and management as well as strategic planning.
Proven ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing is essential in this role.
Demonstrated ability and successful experience managing in a union or similar environment
