Responsibilities: This position will work with persons with disabilities to assist with job seeking/job retention training, job placement, job coaching, and follow up services. The successful applicant assists in the placement of eligible consumers in compatible and competitive employment that is consistent with their interests and abilities. The incumbent works closely with counselors to determine appropriate vocational goals for consumers and identify the availability of similar positions in the community. Other duties include: teaching employment marketing classes to job-ready consumers; providing written and verbal feedback to counselors regarding the progress of referred consumers efforts to obtain employment; coordinating in-school work adjustment programs; meeting with local and regional employers to explain agency mission and goals and to obtain their agreement and commitment to hire vocational rehabilitation (VR) consumers. The selected candidate may also participate in job fairs and other community events to promote the agency and its consumers as well as represent the work unit on boards/committees as designated by the Unit Manager. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent communication skills to foster effective interaction with individuals of all socio-economic and intellectual/educational levels. Demonstrated initiative, sales and marketing skills including the willingness to make employer cold calls and to follow-through with pre- arranged appointments. Thorough understanding of the local and regional job markets. Strong computer skills and proficiency with MS Office including Word and Excel. Working knowledge of VR policies and procedures. Bachelor s degree or equivalent marketing experience and two years of experience in marketing and/job placement preferred. Travel within the Mecklenburg County is required. NC Driver s License necessary. Training and Experience Requirements Degree from a two-year technical school or community college associate's program designed to prepare support personnel for human services agencies including a six months practice/internship in a similar setting and two years of experience in providing direct services to this type population where extensive coordination and liaison with community resources are required, or in personnel or similar field will work directly with a variety of types of work (an additional year of above experience may be substituted for the six months practice); or graduation from high school and four years of the above experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions..
