This team performs critical activities necessary to advance BPS's plant breeding and biotechnology projects from idea to marketplace as fast and effective as possible. These research and development projects focus on enhancing crop performance, productivity, nutritional value, and overall plant health.  Responsibilities include:Manage a corn breeding program in Sycamore and a testing program throughout Illinois and southern WisconsinDevelop nutritionally-enhanced inbreds and hybrids of 100-110 relative maturities for the U.S. corn marketManage summer and winter genetic nurseries and the evaluation program used to select superior genotypes for commercializationSupervise research station employees including full-time, temporary and seasonalManage both operating and capital budgets for the breeding station and determine equipment needsSelect and lease land from farmers to grow nurseries and yield trials.Manage training and compliance with  environmental, health, safety and security  matters  for the Sycamore breeding stationTravel to the winter site(s) to make crosses and pollinations and assure that the station's  winter nursery needs are metContinue to upgrade job-related skills.Requirements:  A Ph.D. in a plant breeding field with at least 2 years  or M.S. degree in plant breeding with  7 years experience.   Experience will be in a seed company, university or USDA and working in a plant breeding program.Demonstrated ability to manage and lead research station employees -fulltime, temporary and seasonalExperience evaluating and selecting land for nursery and yield trialsExperience operating, transporting and maintaining farm equipmentExperience  utilizing  farm electronics including hand held data devices and GPSSelf-motivation and the ability to work independentlyWilling  and able  to travel to winter nursery sitesPreferred:Experience working in corn breeding program.Experience working with environmental, health and safety programs
