Responsibilities: Provides nursing services and epidemiological investigations to individuals in home, community and clinic settings; manages/participates in public health clinics including interviewing and counseling patients, performing clinical tasks and diagnostic tests, giving prescribed treatment, recording data, making necessary referrals, and instructing other personnel and volunteers in their assignments; assesses and identifies individual and community health needs and collaborates with local community groups in identifying and developing needed health services; provides case management and makes appropriate referrals to clients; assists individuals and families in carrying out recommendations made by the health care provider; educates and counsels individuals regarding specific diseases and health conditions as well as health maintenance, promotion and restoration; identifies and reports child or dependent adult abuse and incidents of domestic violence; performs special assignments in the community directed to the control of communicable diseases, the promotion of maternal and child health, the investigation of SIDS (Sudden Infant Death) cases, and the investigation of preventable illnesses, such as childhood lead poisoning; may coordinate public health activities with schools, community agencies and groups; may assist in providing clinical training for nursing students; provides education to interested groups about public health policy/issues and public health nursing services; acts as client advocate with health care providers; complies with universal precautions, safety and other procedures per federal and state CLIA and OSHA regulations; attends conferences, trainings and meetings; compiles, maintains and utilizes records, reports, and statistical information for appraisal and planning of assigned duties. .
