Responsibilities: Director of Bioinformatics ResearchEmployment is with the Research Foundation of SUNY, a private, nonprofit, educational corporation that administers sponsored program activity for the University at Albany.Description of Duties:The Director of Bioinformatics Research duties will include, but not be limited to: advanced and general bioinformatics support, including software development, management, use and guidance; database development and implementation; system administration.MinimumRequirements:A Master's degree in computer science or related field from a college or university accredited by the US Department of Education or internationally recognized accrediting organization; AND a minimum of 5 years experience with Java (including JSP, EJB), SQL, JDBC, UML, HTML, multithreaded and distributed programming, and LINUX. Must have experience with Linux, SVN and MySQL administration. Candidate must have a firm knowledge of post transcriptional regulatory mechanisms, particularly RNA binding proteins, their recognition motifs and miRNA; extensive knowledge of structural RNA, including non-canonical base pairing and three way junctions; experience with RNA secondary structure prediction tools (i.e., RNAFold / MFold), motif definition and pattern searching algorithms (i.e., PatSearch) and miRNA target prediction tools (RNAHybrid, MiRanda, etc.). Candidate must have understanding of Microarray and sequencing technologies and analysis; basic knowledge of statistics; should be comfortable with PERL and C/C ; general aptitude for biology and natural sciences. Candidate must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in written form. Must have experience reading and writing scientific literature.
