Responsibilities: Performs activities related to animal health care. ' Ensures daily animal health assessments and perioperative examinations are completed. ' Reviews new and modified laboratory animal health treatment schedules prior to initiation, and ensures that medical records are complete and current. ' Ensures animals are treated as needed for illness, injury, or as experiments require as directed by the Clinical Veterinarian. ' Oversees shipping and receiving of laboratory animals. ' Maintains records on each animal in accordance with USDA requirements. ' Induces anesthesia, prepares animals for surgery and monitors anesthetized animals. ' Monitors and maintains veterinary care-related equipment, such as anesthesia machines. ' Maintains veterinary supply inventory. ' Maintains controlled substance records. ' Coordinates QA in the animal care program. ' Assists with the coordination and implementation of TMHRI animal care staff and research staff training presentations. ' Establishes working relationships and communicates effectively with the TMHRI animal care staff, veterinarians and research staff. ' Provides backup to other vivarium veterinary technical staff as required. ' Working some weekends and holidays is required. ' Performs other duties as assigned.EDUCATION Requirements: BA/BS with 2-5 years experience Or RVT with 1 year experience Or Masters with no experience EXPERIENCE Requirements: See above. CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS REQUIRED AALAS certification within 9 months of hire SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED Knowledge of and technical ability in veterinary medical procedures Competency in oral and written communication Ability to work and make decisions independently Ability to work well with others
