Responsible for overall direction, utilization, supervision, and instruction of supportive professional staff, volunteers, and students utilized in his or her area of occupational therapy services. Screens, evaluates, and treats patients with various disabilities, disorders, and injuries according to the principals and problems addressed in occupational therapy. Functions under a physician's orders. Participates in program committees and program development initiatives. Assists in the maintenance of the professional image of this service both inside and outside this institution. Collaborates with interdisciplinary treatment plan. The care provided to each patient is specific to the patient's particular physical, age-specific and psychosocial needs. The patient population served by this position includes infant, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric. Requirements: A graduate degree in occupational therapy is necessary. A graduate of an approved and accredited school of Occupational Therapy. Registered and licensed as an Occupational Therapist in Virginia as required by state law. Membership in American Occupational Therapy Association. 0 - 1-year clinical experience1 - 2 years experience in a rehabilitation hospital settingDemonstrates initiative and sound judgment required for utilizing and maintaining established guidelines of care. Decision-making is guided by hospital and department policies/procedures and by physician's orders. Instructs and guides by example new employees and affiliate students. Can effectively serve as a resource person to fellow professionals. Plans and executes patient and appointments. Designs and directs specific therapy activities to meet the needs of the patient population. Composes letters/memorandums. Proofreads documents. Researches information. Uses computer packages to prepare documents, graphics, and spreadsheets. Calculator, personal computer, fax, photocopier, telephone, overhead paging system, VCR, camera, and therapeutic equipment. All equipment routinely used in therapy for evaluations and treatment to include by not limited to the following assistive devices, transfer aids, exercises equipment, modalities, hydrotherapy, cardiac monitoring devices, bracing equipment and splinting equipment.Additional InformationWeekend and/or Holiday Rotation may be required.
