Responsibilities: Under general direction of the Environmental Program Manager, the incumbent is responsible for supervising 4 permanent professional and technical staff as well as 1-5 contract biologists and several scientific aids in wildlife and lands management primarily within Monterey, San Benito and San Luis Obispo counties. include supervision, budget oversight, contracts, permitting, wildlife surveys and captures, habitat management, wildlife disease, nuisance wildlife, hunting programs, lands acquisition, large area conservation planning, and lands management and maintenance. The incumbent is the lead for the coastal portion of the Resource Assessment Program, the regional lead for the PLM program and may be designated as the lead for other region-wide issues. The position requires effective coordination with Sacramento and Regional Wildlife and Lands Management staff as well as with federal, state and local agencies, Non-Governmental Organizations and the public. The incumbent may serve as acting Environmental Program Manager or Regional Manager requiring more broad knowledge of the Department’s legal, policy; political and management issues.
