Responsibilities: Supervises, evaluates, and plans effective special education programs necessary to provide instructional services in compliance with federal guidelines and Virginia Standards of Quality provisions. Supervises, evaluates, and assist with planning of programs provided by guidance counselors, school nurses, homebound instruction, drop-out prevention, and substance abuse, including the work of staff providing these programs and services. Implements the process for measuring the progress of the goals, objectives, and strategies, in the divisions corrective action plan that relate to truancy, dropout prevention, safe and orderly schools, and other areas that impact the special education an student services office. Assists with the planning of professional development for special education and student services staff. Serves on and/or assists with all committees to review referrals and determine appropriate placement in the program, including the collection of data on referrals and consulting with parents. Coordinates and monitors budgets for special education and student services. Interprets special education regulations and student services policies and guidelines to staff, school board, and community. Serves as consultant to the local Special Education Advisory Board and established effective relationships with community agencies. Assists in development of proposals for federal and stat projects. Participates in conferences and professional development designed for administrators of special education and student services. Monitors and supervises the Community Based Instruction (CB) experiences as well as monitor CBI budget. Performs other duties as assigned. Requirements: Masters Degree in Education. Minimum of five (5) years of successful teaching experience with at least two years of which should have been in a program for exceptional children and/or student services service area. Minimum of two year in administration/supervisory position. Successful completion of a minimum of fifteen semester hours with at least one graduate level course in each of the following: 1. Supervision of Instruction 2. Curriculum Development- appropriate to the level at which individual is endorsed. 3. School Administration 4. Teaching Material and Resources and Media 5. .
