Responsibilities: Provides nursing services and direct care to consumers. Works with Residential Supervisors, Program Managers and Agency Nurse to manage the health of consumers. Provides back-up nursing services to the Agency Nurse throughout all Pennsylvania Programs upon request. Trains staff thoroughly in tasks such as feeding tube procedures, vital signs, nebulizer treatments, oxygen therapy, specialized diets, etc. Assure trainings are documented and forwarded to the Training Coordinator for proper filing. Writes protocols and plans of care, training staff in the implementation. Attends staff meetings and trainings as assigned by Supervisor. Understands safety procedures, training and promoting routinely. Assists in obtaining medical equipment and supplies according to the needs of the consumers. Assures that necessary medical appointments are scheduled. If the appointment is related to a serious health condition, may also be required to attend the appointment to gather essential information from the medical professional to assure proper treatment/care. Completes follow-up paperwork, documentation and communication to all team members. Assures recommended medical follow-up such as blood work, x-rays or special studies are secured. Obtain results of blood work and other tests. Ensures availability outside of scheduled hours for staff support. Adjusts scheduled hours as needed when support services are requested. Assumes on-call responsibilities when medical emergencies or hospitalizations occur. During consumer hospitalizations, makes frequent visits, communicates with all health care providers and advocates for the consumer. Actively participates in hospital discharges and coordinates staff training for any new procedures. Advocates to community health care providers regarding the appropriate treatment of residents and the Substitute Decision Making procedures. Working knowledge of Pennsylvania regulations and nursing state and federal laws. .
