Responsibilities: He/she performs only those highly complex tests authorized by the Medical Director and Lab Director and possesses the skills, competence commensurate with his/her education, training and technical abilities. The CLS maintains records that demonstrate that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient specimens, follows department quality control policies, documents all quality control activities, follows laboratory policies when test systems are not within acceptable levels of performance, is able to identify problems and able to correct problems and documents all corrective actions taken. He/she performs order entry of requested test procedures utilizing the current laboratory information system (LIS), performs and processes order entry of send out test procedures to the reference(s) laboratory, receives and logs reports from reference(s) laboratory, manages the testing and reports of the employee health related procedures. The Clinical Lab Scientist must demonstrate critical thinking and can work independently. He/she processes and handles blood and other potentially infectious or hazardous materials which may result in exposure to blood borne pathogens and/or other harmful elements. The Clinical Lab Scientist has oversight of the phlebotomy for the following age groups: infant, toddler, pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric. The Clinical Lab Scientist follows the direction of the Clinical Laboratory Supervisor and reports to the Clinical Laboratory Director.II. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in chemical, physical, biological sciences or medical technology required.Current California Clinical Lab Scientist License required.BCLS required (within 30 days of employment) of one (1) year general laboratory experience preferred.Association of Scientific.
