• To increase customer confidence and loyalty to the produce department by prompt service and a friendly atmosphere.
• To enhance a store’s perishable presence by leading, developing and managing produce operations.
• To execute best practices and maximize sales and profitability.
Job Standards:
Job standards are Key Performance Indicators, including but not limited to, sales, gross profit (including shrink), expenses (including labor and supply management), service, legal and procedural compliance. Additionally, Assistant Produce Managers are expected to exhibit and endorse a strong sense of integrity and urgency in all practices.
Initial Minimum Qualifications:
1. Must be 18 years of age.
2. High School diploma or equivalent.
3. Ability to read, write and speak English adequately.
4. Ability to understand and follow English instructions.
5. Complete training in produce.
6. Successful experience as a produce clerk with at least a 3.75 overall average performance rating in the most recent rating period.
7. Must be able to comply with scheduling guidelines.
8. Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check.
Desired Qualifications:
1. Proficient with computer and computer applications used in effectively operating the department.
2. High standard of integrity and reliability.
Primary (Essential) Job Functions: (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary by the company.)
Management:
1. Manage the inventory, in-stock position, pricing integrity, merchandising, labor and other operational processes to company standards.
2. Follow the company sales and production planning standards.
3. Ensure the department achieves the standards of performance as outlined in the work plan.
4. Ensure all new department associates receive proper review and indoctrination of job descriptions, goals and objectives.
5. Ensure fair and consistent treatment in administering discipline to promote high associate morale.
6. Support the department manager in conducting weekly sales meetings with associates to establish merchandising, sales and profit objectives.
7. Support the management of inventory, security and expense controls of the department.
8. Ensure all product labels, signs and prices are aligned with product.
Customer Service:
9. Promote the company image as a service oriented operation where every associate will greet, assist, render efficient service and thank customers in a prompt, courteous and friendly manner.
10. Resolve customer complaints to the full satisfaction of the customer.
11. Meet attendance requirements.
Training/Coach:
12. Train and develop associates in accordance with the company policy and procedures.
13. Train associates in proper procedures and merchandising and conduct follow-up training.
Communication:
14. Effectively communicate with customers, co-workers, vendors, suppliers and regulatory agencies.
15. Offer product suggestions and inform customers of specials.
16. Provide an open door atmosphere conducive to high associate morale and excellent customer service.
17. Possess good communication skills and the ability to conduct and facilitate department meetings.
Compliance:
18. Ensure company standards of safety, proper food handling, sanitation and productivity are achieved.
19. Respond timely to all location mail, reports and records.
20. Monitor cooler and display area temperature to ensure product quality; report refrigeration failure immediately.
21. Ensure sales and work area is swept clean, orderly and free from safety hazards; report hazards to management.
22. Exercise proper safety practices when lifting or moving product or using equipment.
23. Ensure all wage and hour policies and regulations are adhered to.
24. Notify management of associate theft, customer shoplifting, unauthorized markdowns or property defacement.
