Job Purpose:
To increase customer confidence and loyalty to the Center Store by promoting and executing consistent operating conditions, courteous and prompt service, and a friendly atmosphere. To manage the inventory, in-stock position, pricing integrity, merchandising, labor, and other operational processes relating to Grocery.
Job Standards:
Job standards include Key Performance Indicators determined by the company, including, but not limited to, sales, shrink, proper ordering procedures, expenses (including labor and supply management), service, overall department conditions, legal and procedural compliance as it pertains to rotation. Additionally, Grocery Managers are expected to exhibit and endorse a strong sense of integrity and urgency in all practices.
Initial Minimum Qualifications:
Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently. Ability to understand and follow English instructions. High School Diploma or equivalent. Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be able to comply with scheduling guidelines. Successful completion of pre-employment drug testing and background check. Authorization to work in the United States or the ability to obtain same.
Desired Qualifications:
Proficient with computer and computer applications used in running the department. Demonstrated self-motivation and successful experiences in previous jobs. Strong customer service skills. Exceptional interpersonal, motivational and communication skills. High standard of integrity and reliability.
Primary (Essential) Job Functions: (This list is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary by the company.)
Management:
Write orders according to shelf conditions, needs, time of month and seasonality. Follow proper company procedures with attention to advertised plan and backroom minus off. Manage inventory handling, backroom conditions, efficiencies, and stocking according to company guidelines. Manage the store security functions that come with store key responsibilities. Ensure shelves and displays are neatly and efficiently stocked in the department according to company policy. Ensure shelves and displays are blocked and straightened and that shelves are cleaned as they are restocked. Maintain plan-o-gram integrity and tags. Ensure that the department achieves the standards of performance as outlined in the company work plan. Ensure the proper receiving, storing, rotating and stocking of all merchandise and back stock. Ensure stockroom is cleaned and restacked. Oversee proper disposal of trash. Minimize department supply expense through proper ordering and efficient usage. Ensure proper preparation of merchandise for reclaim center. Ensure proper unloading of trucks, store and stock product and build displays as warranted by seasonal and advertised plan.
Customer Service:
Promote the company image as a service-oriented supermarket by greeting, assisting, rendering efficient service and thanking customers in a prompt, courteous, friendly and business-like manner. Resolve customer complaints to the full satisfactions of the customer. Keep products visible and within reach of the customer. Assist in customer service as needed (i.e. cashiering, bagging, etc). Evaluation/ Assessment:
Evaluate the current leadership bench and identify promotable candidates. Evaluate department conditions and operations to determine strengths and areas for improvement. Reinforce strengths and execute plan to improve practices and procedures. Evaluate product handling, merchandising, salesmanship techniques to increase the departments’ productivity, sales and impulse sales and profits.
Communication:
Communicate department goals and policies clearly, maintaining open communication channels for ideas, suggestions and feedback. Conduct weekly sales meetings with associates to establish merchandising, sales, and profit objectives. Effectively communicate with customers, co-workers, vendors, suppliers and regulatory agencies.
