The position will provide guidance to the organization regarding all Quality Assurance and Process Improvement efforts. This guidance covers all raw materials, equipment, processes and finished products as well as compliance to various regulatory agencies. The position will require the individual to work closely with the plant management team. This is an involved, hands-on position. Primary ResponsibilitiesEnsure procedures are being followed at all time. (a) This relates to the QA department following all testing procedures and ensuring Raw Material, Ingredient, Packaging and Finished Goods specifications are being adhered to. (b) This also relates to ensuring the manufacturing department is following all written procedures and SOP in the processing and manufacturing of products produced in the plant and at associated co-packers. (c) Confirm; say what you do, do what you say, provide it. Do not manager a paper system ensure what is written is actually taking place on the production floor Supervise the activities of the QA technical support group.Provide sound direction and leadership to the QA staffDevelop the technical skills of the Quality Assurance staff.Develop ones personal knowledge and skills to become an expert in understanding the manufacturing process.Must be knowledgeable of acidified foods and the principles of handling and preservation. Provide technical assistance in process improvement, product development, equipment selection and employee training.Review, update and develop product & process specification and QA testing procedures Ensure all batch records are accurately completed, audited and properly stored. Timely development of new and existing processes, in order to minimize final product nonconformance. Facilitate the plant GMP program by hosting monthly GMP audits of the plant.Interface directly with all regulatory agencies and coordinate all site visits and audits.(a) State and other agencies, FDA, USDA(b) Kosher and Organic Certification (c) Third party auditors(d) Internal auditingPossess a working knowledge of FDA labeling regulations, the Bioterrorism Act of 2002 and new Federal regulations as they are presented. Coordinate FDA filing for acidified foods.Liaison with consumer affairs, customers, sales and brokers regarding quality issues. Provide senior management with reports concerning QA and Process Improvement activities. Develop and manage the department budget.Work hand-in-hand with plant management to manage the day-to-day operations of the plant. Determine which characteristics should be measured on raw material and finished goods. Modify and develop procedures as needed.Determine the acceptability of raw materials and finished goods against specifications.Evaluate processing difficulties, consumer complaints and recommend corrective action.Determine QA manpower needs and make decisions regarding staffingEvaluate employees skills and recommend training opportunitiesEvaluate QA activities / procedures and recommend future improvementsEvaluate regulatory concerns and recommend corrective action. Technical ability/Skills/ Experience/EducationMS / BS Food Technology, Food Science, Biology or EngineeringComputer LiterateMinimum Five years of Quality Management or a combination of Supervision/Management in the food industry. | ||
