Responsibilities: The purpose of these positions is to provide supervision, care, counseling, safety and support to youths in their assigned living area during overnight hours. Youth monitors maintain written and electronic records related to the behavior and security of youths under his or her supervision, assess the progress of the youth in their assigned areas, and communicate information to co-workers on other shifts. Applicants will be considered for filling four Youth Monitor positions. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Considerable knowledge of basic relationship (individual and group), and supportive counseling techniques and methods. General knowledge of characteristics of human behavior and delinquency. Skill in communicating with youth and a variety of professionals in oral and written form. Skill in establishing rapport with and understanding the problems presented by delinquent youth. Ability to plan, develop and implement programs and strategies to help delinquent youth; ability to maintain order and control of youth in the housing unit and other areas where supervision is required. Training and Experience Requirements Graduation from a two-year associate degree program in a human services field, i.e. criminal justice, sociology, education or child development and one year of experience providing human services support or formal instruction to children and youth, or one year of law enforcement or correctional experience preferably with youth populations; or graduation from high school and two years of experience providing human services support or formal instruction to children and youth or two years of law enforcement experience or correctional experience preferably with youth populations; or a four- year college degree in human services, criminal justice, sociology, education or child development; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions. .
