Responsibilities : Develop programs and strategies to identify, cultivate, solicit andsteward alumni, patients, parents andfriends of Duke Childrens for significant gifts to fund projects andpriorities.Work Performed:Identify, cultivate and solicit major gifts prospects; recommend andimplement cultivation and solicitationstrategies for individual prospects, working with administration,faculty and volunteers as appropriate.Establish and maintain regular communication with faculty to increaseand coordinate the level offaculty involvement to enhance major gifts activities.Maintain knowledge of current tax laws, investments and planned givingopportunities; use knowledgein prospect cultivation and solicitation working with Director ofPlanned Giving as appropriate.Assist administrators and faculty in the recognition and prioritizationof institutional and departmentalfunding needs; keep abreast of institutional programs.Develop, evaluate and refine plans and timetables for regional,departmental or theme assignments;assist in planning and/or directing cultivational events or programs.Identify and participate in special events, recognition and stewardshipprograms as appropriate; writeacknowledgement letters as needed to enhance relationships with donors.Write or assist in drafting proposals, newsletters, brochures,pamphlets and other materials asnecessary; assist with publicity arrangements on important gifts,programs, accomplishments orevents.Maintain and develop procedures in coordination with the Office of Giftrecords to ensure effectivecollecting, recording, accounting, acknowledgement and follow-up on allprivate gifts to the assignedPediatric department.Develop contact reports and monthly moves management reports.Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.

Requirements :Proven success in securing major gifts of $25,000 and up.Demonstrated ability to handle multiple, complex fundraising activitiessimultaneously and coordinatesolicitation strategies in a decentralized environmentFrequent travel is apriority in this position requiring flexibility inwork hours to include evenings andextensive travel as needed to accomplish objectives and satisfy goals.
