The incumbent will be under the general direction and supervision of the Supervising Engineering Geologist in the Mineral Resources Program The incumbent performs engineering geologic studies, field investigations, collects, analyzes, and interprets engineering and geologic or geochemical data to identify, map, and assess mineral resources, mineral and/or geochemical hazards. Conducts mineral land classification studies for construction materials and other mineral resources pursuant to the Surface Mining and Reclamation Act of 1975 Prepares mineral land classification maps and reports according to criteria set forth in the guidelines adopted by the State Mining and Geology Board. Conducts complex studies related to mineral hazards such as naturally occurring asbestos, radon, mercury, heavy metals, or other natural mineral hazards in California. Collects and analyzes engineering geologic data related to the availability of mineral resources and the life expectancy of reserves. Compile and prepare geologic maps and reports. Attends, participates and makes presentations at public meetings, local government hearings, State Mining and Geology Board meetings, professional meetings and schools. Desirable qualifications: Strong background in geochemistry/economic geology. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of, and ability to use, Geographic Information System (GIS) software. Registration as a Professional Geologist in California.
