Responsibilities : Utilizing basic underwriting techniques this position will evaluate certain new business and renewal applications in order to determine acceptability in accordance with corporate guidelines and standards. This position will also evaluate endorsements that require underwriting approval and refer them to more experienced staff members when appropriate. Providing support to the Underwriting Supervisor, underwriting staff and agents will also be a major focus of this position. Mandates the successful completion of all the requirements of Citizens Underwriting School, which includes obtaining an overall passing score.

Requirements : Evaluates new business requests and endorsements and determines acceptability based on corporate guidelines and risk-based underwriting philosophy, maximizing performance and underwriting results. Uses limited underwriting discretion within authority level to review inspection reports, endorsements, cancellation requests and other transactions and documents for compliance with corporate guidelines and risk-based underwriting philosophy. Escalates work, when appropriate to other members of underwriting staff with higher level of authority and to supervisor on an as needed basis. Orders and reviews inspection reports to ensure a risk is in compliance with corporate guidelines and takes action on a policy if needed, including recommending cancellation. Initiates action to cancel or reinstate a policy in accordance with corporate guidelines and underwriting philosophy. Interacts via phone and in writing with internal and external business partners regarding the acceptability and issuance of coverage, providing a level of service that meets the customers needs. Provides technical assistance and support to agents, underwriting staff and other customers and resolves concerns of internal and external customers.
