Responsibilities and Requirements : City Attorney The candidate will be responsible for providing legal counsel/representation for the . Plans, directs and provides complex professional legal services to the Mayor, and other elected officials, board/commission members and staff. Drafts or reviews proposed ordinances, resolutions, deeds, and contracts. Responds to staff and officials on issues relating to municipal law, litigation and legal instruments binding the City to financial agreements and obligations. Advises city personnel on open records and open meetings issues, as well as human resources, public safety and land use matters. Represents the City in civil cases and may perform or oversee prosecution of criminal cases on behalf of the city. The candidate should have a Doctorate in Jurisprudence from an accredited law school, member in good standing with the Texas Bar association and 3+ years of experience practicing municipal law. Must have excellent writing, research and professional skills and the ability to establish effective working relationships with the public, City Council, City Manager and City Staff.
