Responsibilities and Requirements : The duties to be performed, shall include, but not limited to: checking for accuracy in prescriptions filled by automated dispensing equipment (Optifil) and prescriptions manually filled by pharmacy technicians, filling prescriptions and providing drug information to patients and health professionals. The Pharmacist will screen patient medication profiles and prescription orders for appropriateness. Once appropriate training is received on the software, entering and verifying prescriptions in the computer system may be done. The Pharmacist is responsible for verifying the legality of each prescription and to check patient's medication profile for validity and eligibility before inputting it into the computer. Prescriptions should be checked with formulary, previous filings, other therapies, etc. He/she is responsible for dispensing controlled dangerous substances and other related drugs according to state, federal and VA regulations. The Pharmacist must have an active current license to practice pharmacy that in good standing in any state. The pharmacist should be familiar with computers and comfortable working with automated dispensing equipment.
