Responsibilities and Requirements : Applicants must have at least three years of news writing and/or producing experience. Copy editing experience preferred. Ability to handle heavy script load while assigning scripts to writers is mandatory. Excellent customer service skills are a must. This position requires special attention to affiliate embargoes and sourcing. Attention to complete, accurate and timely script copy editing and distribution is paramount. Occasional opportunities to package produce exist. This position requires interaction with affiliates as well as other departments. Affiliate station experience is a plus, but not mandatory. Producing experience helpful. Knowledge of iNews and Pathfire computer systems are helpful. Duties: A Newsource Advanced Writer is responsible for writing scripts (including lead-ins, vo's, tags, etc) for distribution to more than 800 domestic Newsource affiliates. The Advanced Writer is responsible for assigning scripts to Newsource writing team. Moreover, the Advanced Writer fulfills copyediting functions for scripts distributed by Newsource. This includes checking original Newsource scripts for spelling, punctuation, and/or factual errors; making appropriate corrections to said scripts; and distributing approved scripts to affiliates. Also responsible for training new writers and mentoring/advising current writers as necessary. include other duties within entire Newsource operation as assigned.
